Amistad Ntl Rec Area

Picnic lunch at Amistad Lake

Pecos River before it goes into the Rio Grande
We were just going to have a lazy day and then I decided that we were so close to Amistad Ntl Recreation area that we had to go check that out. There is a 6 mile dam on the Rio Grande river that creates this huge Amistad lake. The dam and the lake are shared by Mexico & the US. It's a very pretty lake. We also drove on into Del Rio (quite a nice little town) and did some shopping. We have been out in the boonies so long we were getting pretty low on some stuff.

We have been kind of surprised by the number of Border Patrol there are down here. I guess that I didn't exactly take the whole Homeland security thing much further than my local airport. There are hundreds of Border Patrol vehicles of all different sorts (many trucks, atvs, boats, horses). Lots of roads that run along the main roads and check points along the roads that travel away from the border. Interesting.

On to Chuck (Donnie's brother) and Pam's tomorrow for a visit for a few days. I probably won't be posting much while we are there. When we leave there, we are planning for several days on San Padre Island on the beach!
