Yosemite and back

Wow, we haven't had internet for 4 days so where to start. I remembered last Sunday why we don't live in California. We stopped at Walmart in Stockton to stock up before heading to Yosemite. It looked like the day after Thanksgiving door busting. Soooo many people and all in a hurry. It was pouring down rain so I think they didn't have anything better to do.

Luckily the rain was pretty light for the ride into Yosemite. All the roads in and out of there are narrow and winding so it was pretty slow going. We got set up in our site by 5 pm although the site was really tight getting into. Good thing I had the king of backers to get our trailer in there. Whew, the guy in the site next to us said that he had seen it take people up to an hour to get back in there because of the big trees all around it.

It rained quite a bit that night but then cleared right off on Monday morning. I didn't remember at all how absolutely breathtaking Yosemite is. High, high granite cliffs all around with huge redwood and sequoia trees, oak trees and ferns. Clear rocky streams and rivers all around with waterfalls thrown in. Donnie was even able to take a couple of the 1 mile hikes (to the lower Yosemite Falls and Mirror lake). I'd love to come back and see it in the spring when the water is high and the wild flowers are in bloom.

We are in a KOA in Visalia, California (near Fresno). I'm doing wash and we need to shop for a couple of things. Tomorrow we are going to try taking a day trip to King Canyons and Sequoia Ntl parks. I couldn't make reservations for a camping spot because they are first come, first serve so it makes us nervous trying to pull in there on a weekend. We'll go check it out and see if we can see it in a day or what.
