We made it to Carlsbad, New Mexico in great time today and are camped in a state park on a little lake. Very nice spot. We do have a situation though. The transmission (yes, that would be the one that we rebuilt for a few thousand dollars) is leaking transmission fluid. We were able to get a guy at a transmission shop to look at it briefly. He said that we could drive it around to the caverns, shopping etc for the weekend and then he would check it out on Monday.
We figure if it needs any serious work we will just rent a car in Carlsbad so that we can get back and forth to the campsite. The campsite has electicity and water so we will dump the holding tanks Sunday night and then we should be fine for several days. At least that way, living expenses will be cheap. Hopefully, it won't be anything serious with the tranny.
The weather was beautiful again today. The cactus are starting to "bloom". I always thought those were actual flowers but they are more like a fruit. I tried to put a picture of one on the main blog page.
