What a perfect day. We took off in the truck for Alameda about 9:15 and made it to the ferry building by 10 am. Dawn & Pete gave us passes for the ferry so that was great. It was a perfect way to go into the city. You got a great view of the San Francisco skyline as well as the port of Oakland where they were loading and unloading these huge container ships. Please note the boxes on the ship .... those are the trailer part of a semi-truck (53' long). Amazing.

We walked down to Fisherman's Wharf from Pier 41 where the ferry dropped us. It was a walk of 3 or 4 blocks so we were ready for our crab lunch. It was delicious ! You might have noticed that we LOVE seafood :-). After that we strolled down to the cable car stop and rode the cable car to Union Square. That is always fun.

They had really cleaned up the Union Square area since we were here last which was probably 20 years ago. I had forgotten all of the high end stores around there. We passed Nieman-Marcus, Tiffany's, Saks Fifth Avenue, a huge Macy's and some boutique shops that looked horribly expensive.

We went to Chinatown through the great fancy gate on Grant street. I love strolling by the shops there. By the time we had strolled a few blocks there, we had to stop at Starbucks for some reviving. We caught the cable car back down to Fisherman's Wharf and by then we were exhausted. We happened to be back in time to catch the 3:45 ferry back to Alameda. We were planning on staying until the 5:20 ferry but we were just too tired.

The weather was just stunning. It must have been about 75 degrees and clear as a bell. What a great day !
