Salton Sea
We are settled in at the Salton Sea State Recreation area. The lake has an interesting story. Apparently, it was created by accident during massive flooding in 1905. The Colorado river flowed into the Salton Basin for 18 months. It is similar to the Great Salt Lake with the water having a higher than normal salinity level. The only fish that currently can survive in the lake are tilapia but if the lake gets much saltier they can't survive either.
It is actually a pretty setting with many different types of birds on the water. The campground is very clean and nice but kind of noisy from the road and train tracks close by. Hopefully, the trains won't run all night long !
Donnie's sister Betty and husband will be here tomorrow. It will be fun seeing the sites with the.
